The CMCA Board recently updated our Body of Rules through the AGM and, as discussed with members, one of the drivers for this change was to advance the diversity objectives of our Board of Directors in line with NZ Cricket expectations. At the same time the Board wanted to approach individuals who brought not only gender balance but other relevant skills and experience to the table. The Board signalled its intention to use the Co-Opting aspect of our Body of Rules to achieve this outcome.
On behalf of the Board of the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association I am pleased to advise members that Kirsty Bond has been Co-Opted to the Board until the 2021 Annual General Meeting.
Kirsty played for the St Albans Cricket Club for 17 years, during which time she represented both Canterbury and New Zealand, becoming the first female player in world cricket to score a test double hundred.
Since finishing her playing days, Kirsty has remained involved in the game in a number of capacities. These include as a selector for both Canterbury and Auckland and on two separate occasions being a member of the White Ferns selection panel.
Kirsty has also spent time coaching at a range of age levels from school age through to the elite areas of the game. From 2003-2007, she coached the Canterbury Magicians and during this time also had a stint as an assistant coach for New Zealand A. More recently, she has returned to coaching and is currently involved with the St Albans premier women’s team. We are excited to have Kirsty join the organisation and look forward to welcoming her in the New Year.
The Board were pleased with the strong interest in the role from the outstanding candidates we invited to express interest and we will keep engaged with these individuals with regard to future opportunities.
Congratulations to St Albans for taking out the Designer Homes Premiership Twenty20 competition and Old Boys Collegians for taking out the Premier Women's Twenty20 competition over the weekend. A great finale to the first half of the cricket season.
