RECORD ADULT TEAM ENTRIES FOR CMCA

With the dust settling on team entries for the 2024-25 cricket season for women and men, the CMCA are pleased to report that a record number of teams have entered since our formation in 2012-13.

In our first year 118 adult teams took part, and the previous peak was 142 in 2022-23.  This year there are 149 teams entered, up from 137 last season.

There has been pleasing growth in the female game with 30% more teams playing in the Division two grade and 50% more in the Social 8’s grade.  In total there will be 27 adult female teams playing, up from 21 last season.  Welcome to New Brighton, Rangiora and Halswell who join Division 2 for their first full seasons and to Old Boys Collegians who have a new Social 8’s team.

In the men’s competitions, there has been good growth in Division 2, up from 12 to 16 teams, which signals an interest to play across Two-day, One-day and Twenty20 formats.  The largest grade is the Twenty20 Cavaliers grade with 31 teams being split across two pools to start the season.

As a club, Halswell have shown the biggest increase, with numbers up 60% on last year.  Lancaster Park is up 30% while Marist Harewood, Merivale Papanui and Sumner have also shown pleasing growth.

Thanks to the hard-working club volunteers who have run open days and confirmed registrations with the season set to start in less than two weeks.

OEM Audio Men’s Premiership, Championship, Division 1 and Division 2 men start on October 5th with two-day cricket, followed by other adult grades on October 12.
