The eagle-eyed will have noticed, amongst the erection of football and rugby posts in Hagley Park and our suburban sports fields, patches of tilled earth fenced off and secure from the rigours of our winter codes.
Metro Cricket, through our Turf Advisor Chris Lewis and Terrafirma Turf, has carried out its autumn renovation programme at various schools and clubs. These last two weeks, amidst perfect weather for this activity, have seen spraying out, verticutting, cleaning away the foreign matter, seeding , fertilising and top-dressing with our local Heathcote clay. In addition, we are very fortunate to have Rupert Bool, head grounds custodian at Hagley Oval, carry-out a full programme on the Hospital Corner grass blocks for the first time in some years.
With a good spring growth and ongoing maintenance from our hard-working club and school grounds staff, players should notice playing surfaces that play with faster and more even bounce.
