Hamish Bennett has agreed to join the Christchurch Metro Cricket Team for August and September, to undertake a co-ordinated programme of promotional events, aimed at the recruitment and retention of junior cricket boys and girls in Christchurch.
The role continues the good work, which has been a feature of the Christchurch spring since the earthquakes, with Andrew Ellis and George Worker being in the role over the previous years.
Bennett will focus on working with junior clubs as they undertake registrations for the 2013/14 season with existing and new players, boys and girls. He will work with schools to co-ordinate coaching and promotional visits, co-ordinate the Wizards squad members to make phone contact with players from last year and promote coaching courses with parents.
Bennett commented that “Every cricketer has fond memories of their junior days. Myself and the other Wizards players are looking forward to helping the Christchurch clubs and getting involved at the junior level, where it all started for us.”
